Ben is preparing to graduate from Gahanna Lincoln High School! Ben's a saxophonist in the band and a runner for Gahanna's cross country and track teams. We met at Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville. (A popular choice amongst many of my photo clients.) The overcast skies allowed for soft diffused natural light and a cool and comfortable shoot. I wish Ben all the best as he enters his senior year!

A couple weeks ago I was fortunate enough to work with the beautiful Catherine on creating her senior pictures! We met at Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville. Inniswood offers a diverse landscape that would be sure to show Catherine at her best. The lighting was perfect and we managed to avoid the hot summer temperatures. A stroll through the park and a few laughs later, we walked away with some images I'm so excited about.

Catherine's a bright girl with a good head on her shoulders. I wish her all the best as she embarks upon her senior year! Below are some of my favorites from the day!

Last weekend, Serena and Jayson exchanged their vows at Scioto Ridge Methodist Church with a reception at the Makoy Center. Their wedding was beautiful and it was truly an honor to capture their happiness on their special day. And a special thank you to Kimberly Sailor for helping me photograph their wedding. 2011 Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot

This past Saturday I had the opportunity to attend the semi-annual Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot in West Point, Kentucky. This was by far one of the most fun and interesting things I've photographed. Gun enthusiasts from all over the country gathered over the weekend to view four rounds of firing at various targets downrange. It was a great way to see the capabilities of some of the most powerful firearms around. Fire crews and security were on hand to oversee the event. It was honestly one of the safest events I've been to, no worries about getting camera gear stolen or anyone causing trouble.

This year I had to opportunity to photograph one of the Columbus area's premier sporting events thanks to my old friend and mentor Tim Johnson of Suburban News Publications. I've photographed it in years past, and every time it's a wonderful experience. Approximately 175,000 fans, 18,000 athletes, and 16,000 youth athletes participated in this year's events. Below are some images from the Ms. International, Fitness International, and Figure International competitions. More pictures to come soon!

I was going back through some photos from the holidays and came across some from my visit with some of my mom's side of the family. Athens County rocked by storms

The Ohio Valley region is picking up the pieces after unconfirmed tornadoes and storms heavily damaged the region yesterday. I went to photograph a few of the places hit in Athens County and was amazed at the destruction. Nothing like a storm of this magnitude to shake you up and make you feel both insignificant and a little more alive. No fatalities reported in Athens County. One fatality reported in nearby Wood County in West Virigina.

14 days until I'm headed back to Ohio.

My time in N.C. has been a heck of a learning experience. Most of the learning happening outside of the newspaper.

Kathrine McKnight laughs as her caregiver Dianne Maxcy gives her a kiss in McKnight's home in Winston-Salem on July 7, 2009. McKnight has been battling endometrial cancer since 1999. McKnight's cancer is eating away at her spine. Once the cancer eats through her spine, she will become paralyzed. She wears a brace in the hopes that it will save her from being paralyzed once the cancer eats through.

"We're like sisters," says Maxcy. "I even come over on my days off."

Gotta go running.

So today I had the privelege of playing around in the studio. I took some self-portraits. I mastered their lighting system!

I shot some cool stuff today, (the reporter intern juggling in the studio and a watermelon carving contest), but can't post it 'til it runs. So here's a feature from last week.

Move to NC

Today I moved down to "God's country" as mom likes to call it. I'm going to start my internship at The Winston-Salem Journal Monday. Tonight I met and bonded with my roommate Joynel. She's really a lovely woman. I'm glad to be rooming with her.

Tonight I also built a desk. And boy, what a battle that was! I went to Walmart looking for a desk solution to set my computer on. I'm only in town for 12 weeks so I didn't want to get anything that would be too big or require a lot of assembling. And I wanted it to be cost effective. At first, I was tempted to just get 2 tv trays, but then I saw it. A do-it-yourself desk for a mere 19.99! I couldn't resist.

Upon opening the box I soon learned that the desk had plastic tubes that screwed together. Talk about stable. Hah! After almost an hour of trying to screw these plastic tubes together and screw the keyboard shelf together I have somehow managed to configure some contraption.

It's my first big accomplishment in North Carolina:

I have successfully built my own wobbly desk out of plastic.

And not only that, but the particle board that is the desktop will not connect to the legs properly. I have a desktop floating on top of 4 plastic legs. Not to mention my computer is on the desktop and my knees and feet are keeping the desk legs from wiggling over onto it's side.

The NC adventure has begun! And with a challenge! How long will the 19.99 desk be able to be used before it collapses? Will it fall apart while Amanda's typing on it? Will it topple with the computer on top? Will it last 12 weeks? But the ultimate question...was it worth 19.99?!?!

We shall see.

Well, that's about it for now. Time to shower and hit the sack.

Just a quick post of some photos of the day. Pictured are some of my family and some from a solo shooting adventure. My Aunt Jill is in town visiting which means a lot of family time. Maybe it's just me, but I find photographing one's family to be more difficult than making pictures of other people. More later. Time for bed.
